THURSDAY IN MELBOURNE – Q&A WITH KIMI AND ROMAIN
Noncsi 2012.03.15. 23:45
With the E20 primed and ready to roll out of the garage tomorrow morning at the Albert Park circuit, Kimi and Romain share their thoughts ahead of the first race weekend of the year.
KIMI RÄIKKÖNEN
KIMI, HERE WE ARE AT MELBOURNE, THE FIRST RACE OF YOUR COMEBACK SEASON; HOW ARE YOU FEELING?
I’m feeling good. I’m glad to be getting back to racing and looking forward to getting out there and seeing how it goes
YOU’VE BEEN AROUND THE PADDOCK AND SEEN A LOT OF FAMILIAR FACES; DOES IT FEEL STRANGE?
If feels very normal. It’s all the same people from testing obviously and a lot of the same faces from when I raced in Formula 1 before. It’s been nice catching up with the old crowd.
AFTER TALKING WITH THE ENGINEERS AND EVERYTHING THAT WENT ON IN TESTING, HOW CONFIDENT ARE YOU, AND HOW MUCH ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO GETTING IN THE CAR?
Nothing’s changed since testing, so we still don’t know what kind of position we’re in relative to the others. Testing was very positive, but practice and racing are two different things. I’m looking forward to getting in the car, forgetting everything else, and focusing on driving.
ROMAIN GROSJEAN
ROMAIN, THE AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX HAS FINALLY ARRIVED; WHAT’S GOING THROUGH YOUR HEAD AT THIS MOMENT?
I’m feeling very good. I’m really happy to be here; the atmosphere in the team is very positive and we’re all looking forward to the season ahead. Melbourne is a nice place to be, and I’m enjoying being here in the paddock.
ALTHOUGH YOU’VE NEVER RACED HERE AT ALBERT PARK, YOU’VE AT LEAST NOW HAD A CHANCE TO WALK ROUND THE TRACK AND SEE IT FIRST-HAND. WHAT DO YOU THINK OF THE CIRCUIT?
It seems like a really nice track. I had a good look around on the circuit walk yesterday, and there a few challenging corners where you can really enjoy yourself and push the car, so it should be good fun!
WINTER TESTING PROVED VERY POSITIVE OVERALL WITH BOTH YOURSELF AND THE CAR SHOWING GOOD PACE; WHAT ARE YOUR EXPECTATIONS FOR THIS WEEKEND?
Well I’ve got my fingers crossed that we’ll be as far up the grid as possible! Testing went very well and while we might not be fighting for pole position at the first race, I’m hoping we can keep developing and maybe go for the top spot very soon.
