Lotus have chosen to unveil their new Formula 1 inspired Lotus Evora GTE sports car, called the F1 Special Edition at the Geneva Motor Show today. The car was unveiled by Kimi Raikkonen, the 2007 Formula 1 world champion who recently signed with the Lotus F1 team to make a return to Formula 1 in 2012.
Unique F1 and Kimi Raikkonen-inspired touches on a very special version of the car include: An unpainted high-gloss carbon-fibre body, carbon interior with copper inlays, gold-piped black leather bucket seats, and Lotus F1 Team Limited Edition badging. The GTE, expected to be homologated for EU markets by May 2012, is the most powerful Lotus road car ever: 444 horsepower from a 3.5 V6, and with over a 100 kg sheered from the standard Evora.
Raikkonen currently lives in Baar, Zug in Switzerland, which is about a three-hour drive from Geneva. Automotive website just-auto.com reports that Raikkonen seemed very relaxed on the Lotus stand after his drive. “And you kept to the speed limit then Kimi?” asked the MC. “Yes, of course, this is Switzerland,” was Raikkonen’s matter-of-fact reply.
Raikkonen will also appear on the BBC TV show Top Gear this Sunday on BBC2 at 20:00 UK time.
